Vancouver branch office

In 2000, the Québec government changed the nature of its representation in Vancouver, where it has been present since 1992. The Vancouver branch office is now under the responsibility of the head of the Bureau du Québec à Toronto.

The mandate of the Vancouver branch office is to promote and safeguard Québec’s interests in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, the Yukon and the Northwest Territories.

Intergovernmental and institutional relations

One of the duties of the branch office is to maintain and develop intergovernmental and institutional relations with the provinces and territories concerned. The office is therefore called upon to liaise with various government and public departments and organizations.


Communications and public affairs

The branch office represents and promotes Québec in its territory and informs Québec government authorities of the major political and economic issues in the territory.

Francophonie

The Vancouver branch office nurtures privileged ties with the Francophone organizations that are present on the territory it covers, thus fostering exchanges and partnerships between the Francophone representatives of these regions and Québec. It plays an active role in managing the programs arising out of the Québec Policy on the Canadian Francophonie, and in monitoring the various cooperation agreements.

In the “Francophonie” section of its Website, the Secrétariat aux affaires intergouvernementales canadiennes offers useful information concerning the policy’s implementation and available financial assistance pursuant to the policy.

Economy

From an economic standpoint, the branch office supports Québec businesses that want to penetrate the Western Canada market. It also advises businesses in its territory seeking to invest in Québec or market their products there.
